Chamba Witnesses Massive Electoral Participation as 8,479 Nomination Papers Filed for Panchayati Raj Elections
Chamba district witnessed a strong democratic response as 8,479 nomination papers were filed for Panchayati Raj institutions elections over three days. The filing process concluded peacefully under the supervision of District Election Officer Mukesh Repswal, covering posts of President, Vice President, Ward Member, Panchayat Samiti Member, and District Council Member.
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Mukesh Repswal confirmed that a total of 3,831 nomination papers were submitted on the last day of the filing process. On the first day, 2,067 nominations were received, followed by 2,581 on the second day. With the final day’s submissions included, the district recorded an aggregate of 8,479 nomination papers across the three-day period.
Providing a detailed breakdown of the nominations, the District Election Officer stated that 1,591 nominations were filed for the post of President, while 1,568 nominations were received for the post of Vice President. The Ward Member category saw the highest participation with 4,564 nomination papers. For the Panchayat Samiti Member (Block Committee Member) positions, 636 nominations were submitted. Additionally, 120 nomination papers were filed for the District Council Member post.
Mukesh Repswal emphasized that the entire nomination process was conducted smoothly, peacefully, and in a well-organized manner. He further stated that the administration has ensured all necessary arrangements to conduct the elections in a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful environment.
The large-scale participation highlights the growing democratic engagement at the grassroots level in Chamba district, setting a significant tone for the upcoming electoral process in the region.
